first began writing fanfiction in 2011, and still do to this day. I was introduced to fandoms by my friendship group in high school, and fell in love with the ease of playing with characters and worlds that were already established. The freedom this gave me to flex my writing muscles and simply write for enjoyment, without having to craft an entire world or start a full cast of characters from scratch, is one that I believe helped foster exploration into new genres by providing me with a sandbox in which to experiment.
Engaging with fandoms as a creator as well as a consumer has allowed me to fully experience the love that such communities produce and thrive upon, and I have been fortunate enough to share and receive some of that love through my works, which have cumulatively received over 294,000 hits.
Over the course of the pandemic, I aimed to focus on my original work, but swiftly realised that for some of my readers, chapter updates were bright spots in a bleak time of their lives. I decided that I would do my best to stick to a monthly updating schedule, originally planning to do so for as long as lockdown in Melbourne lasted. However, by the time our strictest lockdowns ended, I could see that many readers were less fortunate, and was able to stick to my updating schedule promise until early 2022.
The support and encouragement I have received from dedicated readers still surprises me and warms my heart to this day, many sending good wishes for my degrees, congratulations on graduation, and encouragement as I have written my original novel through the pandemic. Such kindness makes the ability to directly interact and connect with my readers is an aspect of fanfiction that I particularly treasure.
